Tories face Labour landslide worse than 1997 in final General Election poll (1)

Labour is now on course to win the largest majority for a single party since 1832 with 431 seats, according to the last YouGov poll published before the election.

The YouGov poll suggests this election is set to be record breaking and many senior Tory cabinet ministers like chancellor Jeremy Hunt are set to lose their seats.

Labour are set to win 431 seats – the largest number the party has ever won surpassing the previous peak of 419 seats won by Tony Blair in 1997.

This would make Sir Keir Starmer the most successful Labour leader in political history in electoral terms.

It is not good news for the Tories who are predicted to win just 102 seats – down on 165 won by Sir John Major in 1997 and two thirds lower than those won by Boris Johnson in 2019.

Meanwhile, it is predicted the Lib Dems will experience a surge, particularly in the south west and are on track to win 72 seats.

  • Ofcom will not investigate Channel 4 News over Reform UK controversy

    Jasper King

Ofcom will not investigate Channel 4 News after Reform UK claimed the channel used an actor as a ‘plant’ in its undercover investigation into the party.

The watchdog received over 270 complaints about Undercover Inside Reform’s campaign, which saw a man named Andrew Parker filmed using a racial slur to describe Rishi Sunak.

Ofcom said: ‘we have concluded that they do not raise substantive issues warranting further investigation.’

A spokesperson for Channel 4 News said: ‘Since this report aired, Channel 4 News has strongly stood up for its accurate, rigorous and duly impartial reporting, which speaks for itself.

‘Ofcom’s decision underscores the integrity of Channel 4 News’s journalism and high editorial standards. The programme will continue to refute any claims that we – or the production company we worked with – knew or paid the Reform UK canvasser, Mr Andrew Parker.

‘We met Mr Parker for the first time at Reform UK’s campaign headquarters in Clacton, and he was filmed secretly via the undercover investigation.’

Martin Lewis hits out at Tories for using him in an advert

Martin Lewis has taken to X this evening to express his frustration about being used in a Conservative Party ad.

He posted on the social media platform that he has not given any political parties permission to use videos of him.

Not again! I have NOT given my permission to be used in political adverts. This is NOT an endorsem*nt by me in any way. I maintain strict party neutrality and am unhappy at the weaponizing of my reputation in this way.

Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer has also delivered his final speech before polls close and warned some constituencies ‘will be tight’.

He urged people to get out and vote to prevent another five years of ‘Tory chaos’.

He said: ‘Imagine a Britain moving forward together with a Labour government. That is what we’re fighting for – let’s continue that fight. If you want change, you have to vote for it.’

Rishi Sunak is not going down without a fight as he gives his last campaign speech in Southampton.

He was joined by around 100 Tory activists as well as his devoted wife Akshata Murty.

He told the crowd with passion: ‘I know we are at a rugby club, but if being a Southampton fan teaches you anything it is that the game isn’t over until the final whistle goes – and that there’s fight in the underdog.’

Keir Starmer makes clear his stance on the EU

    Jasper King

Throughout the election campaign Labour have been criticised for their lack of response as to whether the UK will ever rejoin the EU.

Sir Keir Starmer has now said Britain will not re-join the EU, single market or customs union in his lifetime.

It is his firmest pledge yet that under a Labour government (which is looking increasingly likely judging by the polls) there won’t be closer ties to the EU.

It also means if Starmer wins a second term there are no plans to rejoin.

Asked about it, the Labour leader said: ‘No. I don’t think that that is going to happen. I’ve been really clear about not rejoining the EU, the single market or the customs union – or [allowing a] return to freedom of movement.’

Even the seagulls have taken a dislike to Reform UK

    Jasper King

Reform UK are doing well in the polls but the party has been marred in controversy throughout the campaign.

It now seems that even the seagulls have taken a bit of a dislike to the party.

A rather pesky seagull can be seen swooping down on a woman who supports Reform UK in Clacton, a seat polled to be won by the party’s leader Nigel Farage.

Lets just say she does not look best pleased whatsoever.

Ed Davey’s final election stunt is bigger and better than ever before

    Jasper King

Ed Davey has spent most of this election campaign enjoying himself doing various stunts and even just over 24 hours before the polls close this hasn’t stopped.

Mr Davey and deputy leader of the Lib Dems Daisy Cooper have been pictured in a massive pink car together in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

As usual, the pictures are a joy to see.

Boris Johnson’s dad says he is going to vote Lib Dem

    Jasper King

You might remember Stanley Johnson from I’m A Celeb and the former prime minister’s dad has now admitted he will be tactically voting Lib Dem.

He said he is voting for them because they are the only party talking about the environment and ‘building bridges’ with the EU.

It will be a blow to his son Boris who spoke at a Conservative Party campaign event last night about the threat of a Labour supermajority.

Stanley said: ‘Even dedicated Conservatives have a right to indulge in a spot of tactical voting where basic political priorities are at stake.’

This compares to the Tories on 102 seats – 263 fewer than 2019.

The prime minister makes some interesting shapes with Play Dough

    Brooke Davies

Rishi Sunak has visited a primary school in Hampshire and made some putty pizzas, arguing with a child it was more more than £5.

The Conservative leader rolled balls of the clay dough to add to the slice he and a young girl had made, which he described as pepperoni.

‘That’s my favourite pizza,’ Mr Sunak said.

The pupil said the sale price of the pizza was £5 when asked, with the Prime Minister replying: ‘£5? This is a gourmet pizza.’

Across the table, Caroline Nokes, the Conservative candidate for Romsey and Southampton North, was helping another girl make a pizza.

The pupil rolled a noodle to place on top of her putty pizza and proclaimed that it was a worm-topped pizza.

The Northern Ireland Secretary was asked on BBC Politics Live whether if he thought the election battle was ‘over’.

It comes as Suella Braverman, writing for the Telegraph, said: ‘It’s over and we need to prepare for the reality and frustration of opposition.’

Mr Heaton-Harris said: ‘Is she right? Have we lost? The polls suggest that we have lost.

‘But we need to win every vote to make sure that Labour have an effective opposition.’
