Hero Deku was just starting the second term of his last year in high school,but due to the recent history of Japan he was already famous and spoken about as the rising star of hope across the country. After the devastating war with All For One, broadcasted for all the world to see thanks to a mischievous hacker, he was known world-wide and adored by many.Most of his class was almost as famous as pros that worked for years, but Deku and Dynamight, the Wonderduo, seemed to be most broadly known and adored.
The country was still rebuilding after the war, both the cities demolished in the fights and the society that was using this fresh start to fix some of the issues that had created the villains under All For One’s lead. And class A from UA, along with the school staff, was leading in implementing those changes, discussing social problems and promoting equality and inclusion of formerly marginalized groups.Despite still being in school Deku and his classmates were already hailed as a new generation of heroes, inspiring and bringing hope. The country was going places, even if the process was going to take years. Soon the new heroes were going to graduate and join their older colleagues in the field. Already they had hosts of fans and dedicated much of their time to help in restoration efforts or events, aside from work studies and patrols. The Commission, which had tried to keep it under wraps that they had made kids fight in a battle, had been exposed for all their wrongdoings and was in the process of being restructured, Hawks and other older heroes overseeing that effort and trying to rebuild public trust. Many high ranking officials faced trials.
Currently, Deku and Dynamight, the Wonderduo, were visiting with kids in the children ward of the Musutafu General Hospital. The teens, both in hero uniforms sans weapons and most of the support gear, were playing with the twenty or so children, trying to change the sheets on the beds in the big room. Deku held at least five children hanging like good luck charms from tendrils of Black Whip high above his head, snickering at their tiny limbs flailing in his secure hold as he moved about and strippedd pillows and blankets of their cases. The dirty cases went to the big laundry basket in the middle of the room, guarded by two kids that did a poor job of preventing the hero from throwing the balls of dirty fabric in the bin as if they were basketballs and a hoop.
Meanwhile, Dynamite,flanked by two oldest kids, was putting on new cases. Whenever he finished a pillow he gripped it and fluffled it out while making explosion noises, then threw the pillows at their spot. His sidekicks were sent on ‘missions’ to find lost corners of the blankets in the ‘tunnels’ of blanket cases.
The nurse assigned to oversee the children and the teens just shook her head with a fond smile and glanced towards where the parents and visiting friends of the ward inhabitants were observing the barely contained chaos, some holding up phones to record the young heroes playing with little ones. Everyone was included and no one moped around, and the nurse had to only occasionally remind the heroes that they had to finish changing the sheets before lunch, otherwise the task would dissolve in a game for sure. She could pretend all she wanted, the Wonderduo knew her from previous visits and knew she enjoyed the children smiling happily just like they did. Finally, the nurse, smirking deviously, announced a competition to see who would finish their part of the task faster. Laughter filled the room when the two heroes exchanged looks and dove for the rest of the beds in need of new coverings. Now the chore passed in mere moments, the children cheering for their heroes to win.
She almost cackled when the heroes finished their chore and deposited the kids from Deku’s hold onto the newly made beds. There was still lots of time before lunch and at least half an hour of the time the Wonderduo was scheduled to spend with them. Standing in a commanding pose the nurse pointed to the door at the end of the room, where, on the other side of the corridor was the assigned play area for anyone who could move about. The teens saluted, then escorted the giggling children towards where they could actually play, leaving those already tired to rest before lunch or spend time with their close ones who couldn't stay for much longer.
Once all the kids were safely in the playroom, starry-eyed and excited, they came up with a new game, all anxiety forgotten when they had a chance to play with the famous heroes. None of them noticed the looks the heroes exchanged with the nurse on watch duty to make sure the game was approved. Only when she nodded, smiling kindly, the two teens moved to action.
“Mwahahaha,” the blonde hero cackled as he scooped a small girl in his arms and carefully carried her towards one side of the room while his partner grabbed two other kids, snickering as he deposited them next to the girl on a big mat in the corner. “I am the terrible villain CoolMight and this is my underling DorkMight…”
“Hey!” objected Deku from where he was making sure his charges were alright in the designated ‘holding cell’.
“We’re here to get a fu- a ton of candy.And we have hostages now,” Dynamite continued as if his partner didn’t speak. The rest of the kids cheered when he waved a hand at them. “You can’t stop us, heroes.”
“Yes, we can!” exclaimed a kid with little deer horns on his head, stomping a foot for emphasis..
“We will save them,” added another, waving a hand to one of the hostages, who shyly waved back.
“For candy!” a kid with glasses proclaimed and the rest cheered.
And from there a game started, Deku and Dynamight ‘ferociously fighting’ the team of heroes.
T took the kids no time at all to realize that out of the two Deku was far more ticklish so they focused on tackling him to the mat where he laughed and flaked helplessly while they escorted the hostages to the ‘hero base’ next to the nurse station and toy bins. The ‘villains’ would have lost all their kidnapped children if not for Dynamight snatching his fallen opponents to bring them to the cell before he went to help his sidekick. They tried to be careful and not too loud, mindful of the place they were in and the fact that the kids were not able to keep up with two trained fighters
The game didn’t last longer than ten minutes when a nurse burst into the area and called for Deku.
“Deku, sir,” the woman was easily the age of his mom, but she bowed as she approached the boy sprawled on the floor under three kids. “I’m glad you’re still here, he woke up and wants to see you.” She added while the green haired male wriggled his way out from under his captors and stood up.
The young hero blinked. As far as he was aware no one of his family and friends was in the hospital. The nurse, seeing his expression, told him the name and he nodded shortly before turning his head to call to his companion about his leaving. Bakugo, lying across a mat under a bunch of excited kids, waved him off promising to catch up with him in a short while. With that Deku left the children’s ward and went with the nurse to a different part of the hospital.
Two hours later the whole nation was shaken to the core and the homeroom teacher of class 3A alongside the retired number one hero were trying to find not only Midoryia but also Bakugo.
Both the reporters and fans tried at the same time to storm the hospital and locate the missing young heroes, outraged and all but rioting.
One Togata Mirio sat in an empty hospital wait room with his closest friends planted on both his sides on the couch, holding onto his stomach and staring despondent at the opposite wall and a cactus sitting in a windowsill pot.
In a not so glamorous part of the city two boys stood in front of a crooked gate with peeling off paint and graffiti all over its surface, the name of the establishment lost to layers of dirt and colors. One of them wore red shoes, just like the woman opening the gate for them to enter.
